Niamh Guinness

Dear Readers,

My name is Niamh Guinness. I am 17 years old. I am currently studying business at college in Oxford and I am an advocate for people with hidden disabilities.

I am both an aspiring businesswoman, and someone who is lucky enough to write this blog with the benefit of first hand experience. I have a number of hidden disabilities and special needs, including kabuki syndrome, autism and hypotonia. I hope to create a business or charity for children with additional needs when I have finished my studies.

In the meantime I will be writing about my journey and experiences to date. These include sitting on the Young People’s Executive Committee for Oxford hospitals, taking part in Youth Speaks, a debating competition, and participating in Model UN for a number of years. Previously I sat on my school council, wrote for the school magazine and made video presentations to promote diversity and inclusion in the school community. I spoke on BBC Oxford radio to promote a sponsored walk event. I want to show how people with additional needs can become involved, promote diversity and inclusion in business, and to change society’s views on neurodivergent people by writing from my own perspective.

Next week, I will be sharing an article that I wrote when I was 15 years old, to show you all where my story started.
